A collaborative project with architect Marta Gazika, responding to my residency at The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich. I secured £10,000 funding through the Arts Council and local government grants in Suffolk, UK. I wanted to make a structure that people could walk through before entering the auditorium, the idea being to shift focus of value from the stage to the audience member. The structure was made from a scaffold frame, covered in timber panels, then aluminium sheets, giving it a reflective surface. Inside was lined with mirrors surrounded with bulbs, as in a theatre dressing room. On entering ‘Tunnel’ through a black serge curtain, they were greeted with darkness. The lights came on gradually, slowly revealing the viewer in the mirrors.
